Seedlings for Schools' Success

Recently, LCCTC has received a gift of fresh air, biodiversity, and wildlife foraging opportunities. Through the generosity of Wildlife for Everyone Foundation, Pennsylvania Game Commission, and the Howard Nursery, the LCCTC CC was given seedlings of five different native Pennsylvania tree/shrub species.

White Spruce, Grey-stemmed Dogwood, Eastern Hemlock, American Sweet Crabapples, and American Highbush Cranberry will provide shade, oxygen, and beauty to our properties while providing valuable food and cover for our wildlife. Whether enjoying flowers, songbirds, or hunting, there is a tree that benefits any hobby. Trees are a resource that the LCCTC CC hopes to continue to champion whether as a carbon sink, food plot supplement, or soil erosion guard.

With the helping efforts of several Conservation Club members, Mr. Nych was able to prepare and attach helpful information of the tree itself, how to plant the seedling, and how to care for the seedling with the care package. The members then delivered the seedlings to students and staff that had signed up for their tree of preference. Other students quickly accepted responsibility and interest in "extras" that the LCCTC CC was happy to provide.

Thank you to all students and staff that participated in planting the seedlings and help to foster a stewardship with PA forest lands and wildlife. Whether a farm, house, apartment or gated community, every environment will benefit from these beautiful examples of native flora. Due to the efforts of the LCCTC Conservation Club, LCCTC staff, and the student body, we were able to distribute 250 trees to be planted in our area!
