Tree Stand Safety

Today's meeting addressed a common concern with archery hunters. Tree stand safety is critical for amateur and expect hunters alike. Many of us know someone who has fallen from a tree stand with (or some without) the safety harness. So many hunters and fall photographers become injured each year that even Gov. Tom Wolf issued safety tips all should follow in the woods.
Similar to safety videos for the hunter's safety course, we viewed safety videos describing stand safety and demonstrating how a harness works to keep you safe.
Senior CC Adviser Devin Dittmer then demonstrated how quickly and how quietly harnesses can be applied into the woods. He provided two different styles and discussed many different aspects of safety.
When discussing, Mr. Petronelis reminded the students to think of their vocational safety lesson and job guidelines. "Job sites require safety harnesses for anything 6 feet or higher. Do you really think climbing into a tree upwards of 20 feet you don't need one? All while getting excited from seeing your target? It is absolutely foolish to not keep yourself safe."
Most (if not all) tree stands have a safety harness provided upon purchase. Other harnesses go from all ranges of cost. Banner enjoys his vest harness with pockets and features and reminds us to consider, "how much might it cost to not buy one of these? Even consider 250 dollars like my harness, my life is worth more to me than $250."
