After a short introduction about popular hunting dog breeds created by our Senior CC Adviser Katilyn Ramsey, the LCCTC CC made their way to Mr. Miller's MTT shop. The students were greeted by a beautiful German Shorthaired Pointer (GSP) and a miniature doppelganger.

Mr. Miller ran through some of the basic commands as well as a demonstration of what make a "pointer" a pointer.

Mr. Miller also emphasized the idea that training a hunting dog (or any dog/puppy) takes patience. It is "not an issue of instant gratification. Training takes time and patience. Getting frustrated does not help with the training process." Miller added that especially with GSP that are very sensitive to human emotions. We then discussed the practice of reward system having more beneficial impact than punishment does.

Hunting dogs adds a pleasure and convenience to hunting, but also presents challenges. Be sure you can train, care for, feed, and love another creature before grabbing a puppy and heading to the woods.
